This study examines the meaning of the song lyrics "Semangat Agraria" by Boeatan Tjibalioeng and its function as a medium of social critique amid the agrarian crisis in Cibaliung, Pandeglang. Using a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation, then analyzed using J.L. Austin's illocutionary speech act theory and Jürgen Habermas's social critique theory. The findings show that the lyrics are dominated by directive speech acts urging listeners to care about and act on environmental degradation, conveyed through the symbols of rice and bamboo. The lyrics also function as social critique through three of Habermas's indicators communicative action, the public sphere, and validity claims while communicative distortion could only be examined to a limited extent. This study affirms that folk music can effectively serve as a medium of social critique without direct confrontation with authority.
