Abstract

This study analyzes the impact of government fund allocation and public investment on boosting economic growth and reducing poverty in 38 regencies and cities in East Java Province from 2019 to 2023. Using a quantitative approach and panel regression techniques, the study evaluates the effects of Regional Income (PAD), General Allocation Funds (DAU), Specific Allocation Funds (DAK), and capital expenditure on the province's economic and social indicators. Our findings reveal that DAU and DAK significantly influence poverty reduction, with DAU positively affecting poverty but negatively impacting economic growth, while DAK shows a positive impact on both variables. Economic growth was found to significantly mediate the relationship between DAU and DAK and poverty. However, PAD and capital expenditure did not show significant effects on either poverty or economic growth. These findings underscore the importance of effective management of government funds and public investments in achieving sustainable poverty reduction and economic growth. The policy implications highlight the need for strategic allocation of funds and enhancing economic growth to effectively reduce poverty. Insights from East Java provide valuable lessons for other regions with similar socio-economic goals.
